Taken from EJECT: Archives + Demos 2004-2014 album.
Recorded in 2009. I think I was one of the only people that loved this song. I probably still am, but I am proud of this one. I included this dodgy, scratchy rehearsal recording of the band playing this because I felt it had something special. It's a fairly balanced recording considering it was recorded on an iPhone, tucked into someone's bag, on the floor of some dirty old farm, on a very cold and snowy winter morning in Guildford.
Randomly, I wrote this for a brief for Annie Lennox. I remember rushing into a guitar shop in Gloucester around 2008, to record it down acoustically to send it to the Lennox people that day. They must of past, I wonder why? But I'm glad. On another Annie Lennox note, if you buy her greatest hits album, it features a song I played guitar on (pattern of my life). Interesting Connelly trivia point.

LYRICS /
Sure enough, I've been sure enough before
I've given up, and I don't give up easily
I lose my nerve, I lose my nerve when I get closer to you
It builds me up, then it reminds me of the time when I last heard your voice
And it's so heavy when we touch at night
And I'm just some complicated fool that don't know how to say goodbye
And it's just so heavy when we touch
Am I the only one with my arms stretched out wide enough
Oh, will I ever learn?
No.
Gave up on love
I gave up on love when I got nothing from you
You're so unbled, you're pencil-lead red
Yeah you shatter every time I get closer to revealing you
And it's so heavy when we touch at night
And I'm just some complicated fool that don't know how to say goodbye
And it's just so heavy when we touch
Am I the only one with my arms stretched out wide enough
Oh, will I ever learn?
So follow me
And write me a letter, that I can read over and over and over again until I'm better
Unsettle me and keep me unsober.
And let me sink under and under and under the sea,
Where I'll make my home
And this heaviness will turn into stone
And your statues can leave me alone until I'm better
Oh, why you so, why you so, why you so heavy
Why you so, why you so, why you so heavy
Why you so, why you so, why you so heavy
